James Stuart Park was a high profile Glasgow Boy renowned in his early years as a still life painter with a remarkably modern sense of  design and fluency of which this is an outstanding and rare example. In later life, his career tailed off, becoming  a prolific painter of roses. This work will be a standout addition to the Glasgow Girls and Boys touring show – but equally to a more general historical survey as we have few early still lifes  in the collection.
