Portrait of a Woman

Stansmore Dean Stevenson

DESCRIPTION

Stansmore Dean Stevenson is one of the rarest artists of the first generation women painters to train at Glasgow School of Art. The handful of works in public collections  have proved hard to borrow for the Scottish Women Artists show – and this modest late work allows us to tell her important story which includes her marriage to influential Glasgow Boy, James Macaulay Stevenson. Since the acquisition, hte sitter is identified as Macaulay Stevenson’s sister.
